Non-urgent advice: Markdown

You might be wondering why people use Markdown instead of a WYSIWYG editor. Why write with Markdown when you can press buttons in an interface to format your text? As it turns out, there are a couple different reasons why people use Markdown instead of WYSIWYG editors.

Markdown can be used for everything. People use it to create websites, documents, notes, books, presentations, email messages, and technical documentation.

Markdown is portable. Files containing Markdown-formatted text can be opened using virtually any application. If you decide you don’t like the Markdown application you’re currently using, you can import your Markdown files into another Markdown application. That’s in stark contrast to word processing applications like Microsoft Word that lock your content into a proprietary file format.

Markdown is platform independent. You can create Markdown-formatted text on any device running any operating system.

Markdown is future proof.

Non-urgent advice: Dillinger

When learning Markdown found the best way to use it was to write it in Dillinger.

Not without is obstacles of where to save it to. Found a couple of places to do this – after losing 6-days of notes – One Drive Folder labelled as Visual Studio and also in Google Drive.

Non-urgent advice: Visual Studio

A useful Integrated Development Environment (IDE).

Allows Markdown to be written in VS or imported from Dillinger.

Lots of options and plugins available e.g. HTML, CSS. Java

Non-urgent advice: Word Press

Created my very first web page to capture my learning and to also produce a weekly notes page to capture my learning.

A reflective piece about my learning has also been produced.

Non-urgent advice: Help Scout

Joined a virtual class in the USA to better understand how Help Scout can work.

Appreciated how apart from it being a one stop shop to support a client. There is also functionality to build a helpbot onto a clients website.

Non-urgent advice: Modular Object-Orientated Dynamic Learning Environment (Moodle)

A super learning platform used to augment and move existing learning environments online.

As an E-learning tool, Moodle developed a number of features now considered standard for learning management systems, such as a calendar and a gradebook.

Moodle is a virtual learning environment and can be used in many types of environments such as education, training, and development and in business settings.

Non-urgent advice: Technical Skills

After learning about Markdown, Dillinger, Visual Studio, Word Press, Help Scout and Moodle. The next step of my journey to aspire to be a full stack developer is to learn about the intricacies of Dev Ops, Content and Support.

HTML, CSS and Java the next part of this inspirational journey.
